Myself and Donia enjoying last years Breede

Well after the long hard slog of the Berg River canoe Marathon ( see previous posts) our local winter paddling season moves to the East and onto the Breede River culminating in the Breede River Marathon on the 5 and 6 of  September, the focus of this race is K2  paddling, the days are shorter (2 days 35km & 37km) and the river bigger.

 This weekend sees the start of the pre races the first being between the towns of  Robertson and  Bonnievale . The scenery is truly awesome, there is snow on the mountains, the flowers are out, the fruit trees are in blossom and the grape vines are starting to sprout. The area is a really well known wine producing region of South Africa and along the way you pass some of the best wineries anywhere, always good places to stop for lunch before you head home.

 

The 2nd big race of the weekend is the US Surfski Champs being held in San Francisco under the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, Sean Rice headed off on Monday very excited and ready to race I will be holding thumbs that he has a good one on his Think Surfski using his Orka Paddle (Super Flex), by all accounts the new course is a cracker…good luck to all those taking part.
