What a great way to start the season, a proper surfski race, well done to all those that competed, this was a race which had everything and is what surfsking is all about, and a true test of whether you are on track for the Cape Point Challenge.

Just after the start (Jon Vellicott)
Upfront the race was dominated from the start by Dawid Mocke and Tom Skilperoodt with Graeme Solomon and Peter Cole fighting it out for the final podium position.
Long Beach Simons Town proved to be a great venue for the opening race, and the course had a lot of everything, some heavy headwinds out to the turn at Ark Rock, great downwind to the turn Bouy and testing sidechop to the finish after 2 laps.
Dawid showed all his experience holding off Tom in 2nd and Graeme 3rd. In the ladies the course was definatly to the liking of Rebecca Newson who powered away to beat Nikki Mocke into 2nd and Bianca Bevitt in 3rd.
Next week moves to the calm waters of the Langebaan Lagoon and a 15km race, followed by a Cape point qualifier on the Sunday.
