Well you should all be feeling nice and strong by now. 5  weeks of training under the belt, a few surfski time trials and the first Discovery Mens Health race looming.

I managed to fit in my first surfski TT of the season and what a great paddle it was. The Hout Bay series on a Tues evening is normally a lap course in the bay, but luckily  this Tues  the weather played ball and they did an out and back around Vulcan Rock, which is where the biggest wave was ridden last year. You head out around the Sentinel, past Seal Island, past Dungeons Surf break and around a rock(Vulcan) in the middle of no where.

So what a pleasure to have calm conditions and a great way to finish off the day. This also made me realise how important it is to fit in a time trial once a week, really helps with the race fitness.

From this week onwards Monday becomes the main rest day, nice to relax after a hard race on Sunday. As for Sundays race it is really looking like a great  Cape Point test the SE wind will be up there will be some headwind , downwind and rebound swell off Simons Town Harbour Wall.( Great venue for race 1)

Week 6 Nine to go
Mon 19 Oct : REST
Tues 20 Oct : Time Trial try to fit in a good warm up before hand( loosen up after rest day..extra milage never hurts)
Wed 21 Oct : 10 x 4 min Bunch take turns to pull, good warm up and warm down.
Thur 22 Oct : 5 x 2000m time trials try to better best times
Fri 23 Oct : 10 km steady try to get to the sea ( Sea dog series good practice) or cross training 30-40min run
Sat 24 Oct: Race Langebaan Lagoon Challenge 15km

Good luck for the Grading race. Aim for 70%of the winners time, but there is still alot of time to get there if you are off the mark dont give up......The finish of Cape Point is something special!
