Birkett’s dream race continued on the final day of The Unlimited Dusi canoe
marathon as he managed to keep the vastly experienced Ant Stott at bay and
eventually out sprint the four-time winner to cross the line at Blue Lagoon in
Durban in first place by the narrowest of margins the 60 year-old race has ever
seen.

Inanda Dam - Ant Stott showed tremendous determination as he fought
back from an unexpected swim midway through the stage to set the fastest time of
the day on Day Two of The Unlimited Dusi to claim a narrow stage victory over
Day One winner Andy Birkett and in so doing took the overall lead as
well.
Stott looked to close the gap as quickly as possible but he had his
work cut off for him as Birkett was keen to keep the Dusi stalwart at bay for as

Birkett stormed to the overnight lead in The Unlimited Dusi canoe marathon,
shattering the ten year old stage record after a first stage peppered with
dramatic developments systematically derailed the top contenders.
Twenty
year old Birkett, who won last year’s K2 race along with Jason Graham, looked
