When Alexa was training hard, one of the things she always said was if you don't look forward to your rest day, and claim it hard you have not trained hard enough that week.
So on Mondays you should be claiming it, this last Monday it was very easy to claim in Cape Town as we were hit by a monster storm on Sunday night and Monday morning.
Kalk Bay Harbour Monday morning.
Kalk Bay Reef Monday evening when the wind finally died.(Spanner Boy had inside line on this one but chickened out).

Well the first grading race is behind us, and I have just got back from doing the 1st Cape Point Qualifier. in Langebaan, and it was honest. If you are wondering if you qualified the results should be up shortly. General rule of thumb for the qualifiers is that you need to finish within 25% of the average of the top four paddlers, IE. work on being less than 15min behind for every hour raced by the leaders.

What a great way to start the season, a proper surfski race, well done to all those that competed, this was a race which had everything and is what surfsking is all about, and a true test of whether you are on track for the Cape Point Challenge.

You head out aroun...

Well 4 weeks down by now, and for me some great paddles already. The morning swamp sessions have started and already the usual banter is about, and for a week that has not exactly had showroom paddling conditions, the turnout has been great, so if you are battling for motivation to get up......try make Sandvlei at 5 45am.
Over the next few weeks I will try to break the Cape Point course down into sections and give a few good tips of what to expect. I am going to start backwards as I believe the...

Well if you are not at the
Fish River Canoe Marathon, it looks like a great weekend in Cape Town to get in some good sea paddling, if you are at the Fish I hope all is going well and you come back motivated to tackle the next Big Event, the Cape Point Challenge......only 10 weeks away.
It is also only 2 weeks to go to the 1st race of the
Discovery Mens Health Cape Surf Ski Series, for the Cape paddlers this is important as it determines your seeding for the Cape Point.
Once the Fish is over th...
